Frequently Asked Questions
Just the FAQ, Ma'am....

E-mail

Q: What is my email address and what is my email user name?

Your email user name is the same as your logon name (user name), unless you requested a different email name when you signed up for your service. If you started your account with us after October 30, 1996, your email address is username@esn.net.

Examples:
Right!
webmaster@mail.entrsft.com (Before 10/30/96 sign up)
webmaster@esn.net (After 10/30/96 sign up)

Wrong!
webmaster.esn.net
webmaster@mail.esn.net

Q: What does the message 'No new mail on server' mean?

It simply means that you do not have any new email messages.

Q: Does my computer have to be connected to internet all the time in order to receive email?

No. E-mail is received at esn.net on a host server (normally esn.net) and is held there until you retrieve your messages with a client program such as QMC, Eudora, Microsoft Mail etc.

Q: When checking for new mail, I get the message Error Access Denied or Server couldn't execute command?

This normally indicates that either your user name or password are incorrect in your mail program. Check and make sure that you have entered both your user name and password correctly. (If you are using certain versions of Eudora on the Macintosh, your user name should be entered as username@esn.net instead of just your user name).
All passwords for mail are lower case, make sure that the caps lock key is off when you are entering your password.

Q: When checking for new mail my system times out?

Check your program settings and adjust your time-out setting upwards. Also, sometimes on slower machines mail folders can become corrupted or hard drives can become so badly fragmented that your mail program can no longer connect with the server. Try compressing your mail folders (if your mail program has that option) and defrag your hard drive.

Q: I was checking my email and it said retrieving message 3 of 4 and it locked up. I've tried several connects, rebooted my machine and and it always hangs on that message

Someone may have attached a files to your email message, and your system may be downloading several megabytes of data. Adjust your time out value and give your system a while to work on it. If you have an external modem, check and see if the receive and transmit lights are blinking on and off if so be patient. If the receive and transmit lights on your modem aren't active, then call tech support at 919-778-4611 or 1-888-276-4376.

Q: I keep getting the same old mail messages every time I connect with the mail server.

Somehow you have set your mail program so it is not deleting your mail from the server when you are retrieving your mail. Check your program and adjust the DELETE RETRIEVED MAIL option to yes.
