Newsgroups, like IRC , offer a forum in which to discuss or debate
topics of their choice and a place to trade files. Unlike IRC, however, newsgroup discussions are
not carried on in real-time.
You post your message, and then other members of the group post replies over a
period of hours or even days. esn.net gives you access to more than 16,000 newsgroups, touching on virtually every possible subject.
To access these groups, you need a news reader. Netscape, MS Internet Explorer 3 and Quarterdeck
Internet Suite offer newsreaders. One of the best newsreaders is Free Agent
and as it's name implies, it's FREE
Your news server is news.esn.net
You'll have to download the current list of newsgroups before you can view messages. This can take a while the first time.
One of the groups will be news.newusers.questions
This is an excellent starting point. Note: If your newsreader isn't configured properly, you'll get an error message when you attempt to load
the list of newsgroups. For information on configuring your newsreader, consult your
