- Create your web page(s) and all graphics(.gif or .jpg) and have them ready to upload to esn.net's server.
- If you need help creating your page, go
here.
- If you don't already have an FTP(File Transfer Protocol) client installed on your machine,
download one from Strouds Consummate Winsock Apps
or TUCOWS(The Ultimate Collection of Winsock Software).
Try WS_FTP or CuteFTP.
- Set your FTP Software to log on to:
ww2.esn.net
Use your e-mail log in name and password.
- By default, you will land on our server in the /usr/home/yourusername folder(directory).
- You'll see a number of files already there...many with a "." in front of the name.
They're very important. Never delete any of the files or folders esn.net has placed there.
- There should be a folder named public_html there...If not, make a new folder(dir)
on our server named public_html
- Open this public_html folder(dir) and upload your new pages and graphics to this new folder(dir) on our server. All file names should be in lowercase letters, as our server is case sensitive.
- Always rename your homepage index.html after uploading, so that:
- Your vistors must only type in the directory name http://ww2.esn.net/~yourusername and not have to also type the page name.
- Without index.html, visitors can view the entire contents of your directory and see all your work, good or bad.
- You can't work on your pages while they're on the esn.net server.
You must edit them on your machine, upload them and overwrite the files already there.
- Your URL or web address will be:
http://ww2.esn.net/~yourusername
- Remember that you're a guest on this server. Your access is restricted to your folder.
