Welcome to the Windows95 Dial-Up Networking Tutorial. This tutorial is comprised of 3 steps.

Step 1 is installing the Dial-Up Networking software into Windows95.

Step 2 is adding the TCP/IP protocol to your Networking software.

Step 3 is creating the esn.net settings to dial in with.

Before You Start

1. Make sure Windows 95 recognizes your modem.

Right-click on "My Computer", select "Properties", then select "Device Manager". See if there is a modem and what Win95 thinks it is.

2. Go to our Settings Page, locate your dial-up area and print out or copy the information required for your area.

Step 1

To install Dial-Up Networking:

0. Before starting, place your Windows95 CD into your CD-ROM drive, or have your disks handy.
1. Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Double click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
3. Click on the WINDOWS SETUP tab. (look along the top to find it)
4. Click on COMMUNICATIONS, then DETAILS.
5. Check the checkbox that says DIAL-UP NETWORKING.
6. Click OK on all the menus back to the Control Panel.
7. Windows95 will then install Dial-Up Networking.

Step 2

To add TCP/IP:

0. Before starting, place your Windows95 CD into your CD-ROM drive, or have your disks handy.
1. Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL.
2. Double click on NETWORK.
3. Click on ADD, then PROTOCOL, then ADD.
4. Select MICROSOFT as the manufacturer, then TCP/IP as the protocol.
5. Click OK on all the menus back to the Control Panel.
6. Windows95 will then add TCP/IP.

Step 3

To set up your esn.net access icon:
1. Click on START, then PROGRAMS, the ACCESSORIES, then DIAL-UP NETWORKING. Double click "Make New Connection".
2. Up pops the "Make New Connection" Wizard. It will ask you for some information about your esn.net settings, account and possibly about your modem, enter it.
3. You will now have a esn.net icon in your Dial-Up Networking window.
4. Right click on your esn.net icon, then click on PROPERTIES.
5. Click on SERVER TYPE.
6. In the top half, uncheck all the check boxes EXCEPT the USE SOFTWARE COMPRESSION checkbox.
7. Click OK on all the menus back to Dial-Up Networking.
8. Click CONNECTIONS on the menu bar, then SETTINGS. Check the REDIAL box and set it to retry 100 times(Win95 max.). Set wait time to 0 min. and 2 sec.

9. Right click on your new esn.net icon and drag it to your Win95 desktop. Select "CREATE SHORTCUT HERE".

Using Your esn.net Account

To log in:

1. Double click on your esn.net icon.
2. Fill in the Username and Password and make sure the Phone number is correct for your dial-up area.
3. Click CONNECT.
